Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth and Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel Invited to Salzburg Global Seminar on the Holocaust and Genocide, June 28 - July 2, 2010

Dr. Sonja M. Hedgepeth and Dr. Rochelle G. Saidel were invited to represent Remember the Women Institute and participate in the Salzburg Global Seminar entitled The Global Prevention of Genocide: Learning From the Holocaust, in Salzburg, Austria from June 28 to July 2, 2010.
This international conference brings together educators, NGOs, policy makers and other experts working in the fields of both Holocaust studies and genocide prevention to consider the root causes of modern genocides and explore the ways in which Holocaust education programs can be developed to effectively combat contemporary expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and ethnic conflict in different regions of the world. The focus for Dr. Hedgepeth and Dr. Saidel is the relationship between gender and genocide, based on the book they have co-edited, Sexual Violence against Jewish Women during the Holocaust.

The Salzburg Global Seminar is a leading global institution that challenges current and future leaders to develop creative ideas for solving global problems. As an independent, non-profit organization, the Salzburg Global Seminar convenes imaginative thinkers from different cultures and professions to develop strategies for change. It organizes problem-focused initiatives, supports leadership development, and engages opinion-makers through active communication networks, all in partnership with leading institutions from around the world and across different sectors of society. Founded in 1947, the Salzburg Global Seminar has been addressing global issues for sixty years.
