Conference: The Lessons of the Holocaust and Contemporary Russia
Moscow, Russia

Members of the Moscow conference The Remember the Women Institute was represented at an international scientific conference in Moscow in October 2002, at the invitation of the Russian Holocaust Foundation and its director, Dr. Ilya Altman. The conference, entitled “The Lessons of the Holocaust and Contemporary Russia,” was held in conjunction with the Solomon Mikhoels International Art Festival. The issue of women and the Holocaust was addressed in this setting for the first time. Dr. Rochelle Saidel presented a lecture on Jewish women at Ravensbrück concentration camp, and Dr. Sonja Hedgepeth, a professor of German Studies, Holocaust Studies and Women’s Studies at Middle Tennessee State University who cooperates with the Institute, presented a paper on teaching about women during the Holocaust.
